This April Fool’s Day, the world’s largest statues were digitally dressed up in some of the best Medora Musical costumes. North Dakota giants from across the state made their debut on social media—all to promote the 60th anniversary of the Medora Musical.
Our newest, and largest, stars consist of Jamestown’s Dakota Thunder, who had the honor of donning a Theodore Roosevelt costume inspired by ‘Old Four Eyes’- the original show that played on stage in 1958, just one year before Dakota Thunder made his debut in 1959. Wally the Walleye, who was styled as a Rhinestone Cowboy inspired by the 1980 Medora Musical. Salem Sue took center stage in an outfit inspired by the 1974 Medora Musical, the same year that Salem Sue was built in New Salem! Sandy the Sandhill Crane rocked a clogging outfit from the 1990s, the Dala Horse from Minot dolled up in classic Western fringe inspired by the early 2000s, and Wahpper the catfish looked fly in his gingham cowboy costume, which was inspired by the 1997 Medora Musical, which was the same year Wahpper made his debut in Wahpeton.
This fun project was a collaboration between Travel North Dakota, the cities of Garrison, Jamestown, Minot, New Salem, Steele, and Wahpeton, and the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation.
