The Tjaden Scholarships Fund & Larson Ambassador Award

Supporting the dreams of our wonderful employees

in honor of a tr medora foundation legend.

Rod Tjaden has been a part of the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation story since the very beginning. He came to town in 1971, back when Medora was a division of Harold Schafer’s Gold Seal Company. In 1986, when the Schafer family established the TR Medora Foundation, Tjaden was made Executive Director—and he led a young organization toward a new century with confidence and character.

A year after his passing in 1997, the Tjaden Scholarship was established to support the many seasonal employees who come to work during the summer in Medora. Each year, around thirty outstanding employees are selected by an internal committee to receive a scholarship. Click here to read more about those scholarships and awards.

Each year, approximately $30,000 in scholarship funds are given to deserving employees.

Since 2004, TRMF has hosted the Rod Tjaden Memorial Golf Tournament at the beautiful Bully Pulpit Golf Course—a day-long outdoor experience that helps us grow the permanent endowment fund for TRMF employee scholarships.

The Tjaden Tourney has become an annual tradition for many Medora lovers. But it isn’t just a fun day on the links in the Badlands: it’s a crucial event that paves the way for our beloved summer employees to pursue their passions.
